RAIA Commendation 1986 (Brisbane Region)
Woodrising Apartments is a modern interpretation of the six pack unit block, adapted for a sloping site in Guthrie Street at Paddington, an area characterized by “timber and tin’ traditional housing.
Biscoe Wilson Architects developed a two level design over carparking that included a community foyer that was top lit by an extensive skylight. Apartment entry doors cranked into the community space.
The sloping land was used to advantage by bringing pedestrian entry in at the mid level and cars at road level. A significant Norfolk Pine was retained by tapering the building form.
