The site is located on the northern beaches of Mackay, a rapidly growing regional town, north of Brisbane. Mackay is a popular tourist destination as it is a jumping point to the Great Barrier Reef an is also part of Queensland’s mining boom.
The proposed 62 unit development is designed to reflect its tropical location and proximity to the beach and dune environment.
The development consists of two, three and four storey apartment buildings, connected by a shared basement car park and six blocks of attached two and three storey townhouses with a variety of floor plans and façade treatments.
The development is configured around a “village square” with apartments and most townhouses sited so that they look onto a communal recreation area, including pool and picnic facilities, which is both accessible and secure. The two apartment buildings which overlook the public reserve to the east, are separated by an 11.3m pedestrian zone which allows for a visual connection between the recreation area, to the natural dune landscape beyond and provides pedestrian access to the existing pathway to the beach.
