Biscoe Wilson Architects designed a general purpose classroom block for an inner suburban state school in Brisbane. The tight, eastern facing site addressed the school oval and was flanked by existing heritage-listed, brick buildings. Three flexible classrooms have been provided on each level of the two storey building. An undercroft below the building provided a covered play area and a visual and functional connection from the main school precinct to the oval. Perforated metal screens to outdoor learning areas were laser cut with fluid patterns to encourage light and air into learning spaces while maintaining safety and security. Floor tying enables connections at all levels to the existing adjacent building. Biscoe Wilson Architects have researched pedagogy and the relationship between the built environment and educational outcomes. We believe that an understanding of the requirements of teachers and needs of students informs the design of our buildings.
Biscoe Wilson Architects are specialist school architects and enjoy working with our clients to provide excellent design solutions that enhance education outcomes.
