Biscoe Wilson Architects finalised design and documentation of an adaptive reuse project for the International City Church project at Newmarket in 2102, after previously investigating options for their existing under-utilised site in Fortitude Valley. The church required additional space for its expanding community role. We tested the potential for additional development on their site to provide for a 16 storey mixed-use tower incorporating church functions as well as: retail; restaurant; office and residential uses as a vibrant addition to the Fortitude Valley area. A cut-away section allows light to penetrate deep into the building which has a main street and rear lane access.
In 2011 an alternative site was investigated for an adaptive re-use of an existing community club (previously the Italian-Australian Club.) This scheme involves a refurbishment of a three level building (3000sqm) to accommodate the multi-functional facilities of the church as well as an 800 seat auditorium. The proposed adaptive reuse of the existing community building involves raising the upper roof to create a multi-function auditorium to accommodate the church's contemporary service format. The mid level will incorporate a cafe, meeting and function rooms and the ground level will be refurbished as church offices and a Sunday School.
The new auditorium will incorporate state of the art immersive audiovisual technology to provide a memorable experience for the congregation.
Construction commenced late in 2012 and completed in late 2013.
