2007 RAIA Commendation (Brisbane Region)
The S House is a front extension to a 1980's rendered masonry residence, providing a new facade externally and internally independent living space for young adults. Central to the idea is the entry / stair device which is filled with natural light and with opportunities to rest and observe. It acts as both a hinge to the connecting armatures that maintain the family community and as a significant marker in the street elevation, referencing nearby older symbols of establishment such as elaborate gabled and gated frontages.
In 2015 we were commissioned by the new owners to undertake further modifications to the original house, particularly to the rear of the residence with an aim to modernise this area to a standard that matches the previously modernised street front addition.
