Biscoe Wilson was commissioned to design and document an Environmental Science Centre as part of the Building the Education Revolution (BER) Program. Two science laboratories and six classrooms were also refurbished as part of the Smart Schools of Tomorrow programme (SSoT)
The Environmental Science Centre is a facility incorporating teaching spaces, a laboratory and practical learning area (PLA) for agricultural and aquatic experimentation. The building is located adjacent garden areas and a greenhouse where crops are grown and harvested. The PLA is a flexible space with high ceilings and good natural ventilation and natural lighting.
A solar power generation plant (photovoltaic panels) have been installed on the roof and rainwater is harvested into underground tanks for irrigating the gardens. The PLA is a linear plan with excellent cross ventilation and natural daylighting. Large diameter / low velocity fans assist in cooling.
